Unlike me, Esther and her sister had a store at Fash'n Treasure last Saturday. Cutely, it was called 'My Sister's Closet'. The store's highlight was this amazing suit.

Fash'n Treasure blew my mind.

Apparently the turn-out was unimpressive on account of Foreshore, but that just meant more cool shit for the rest of us. I bought so much for SO LITTLE MONEY.

As well as some really great vintage, people were making stuff! Don't even try to hold me back from craft.

These are earring made out of sunglasses' arms. I may never be more chuffed.

Sigh.

Now if you really wanted to go to Fash'n Treasure, but you didn't know it was on and missed it, I suggest time-travel or simply just remind yourself to check Party By Jake more often. This is where I blog and tell you about these amazing things.

Ignore his ugg-boots, he live on campus. What I'm talking about is the half-shaving.

Now my Dad once said,"I don't understand why anyone would what to shave their hair unless they were a fascist...or a lesbian." My father is a deeply confused man, especially now this hair-cut is now heavily represented by all sorts of folk.

My love for this cut is strongest when the long hair on top is doing something nutty - like curls or crazy frizz. At the time of this photo, Young Sam hadn't washed his hair in 6 weeks. He is trying to revert it back to a self-cleaning state. There is nothing about this experiment that I don't like.

I'm not a 'The Sartorialist' lady. This blogger is the kind of guy to write,

Not exactly the most relevant info for our age bracket. I'll dress old when I get old. For instance, I might consider dry-cleaning something when I hit menopause. Basically I'm a grungy scruff-ball. Therefore I own (and wear!) some grey fleece trackpants that are freakin' perfect for spilling pasta sauce on (omg, the absorbency).

In light of this, I've been hoarding some this picture of trackpants that we dug, just because...you know, not v. fashiony. But then I saw this photos on The Sartorialist of some dude in Moscow:

They even look like the ones you used to get from Supre. Which I think proves that, although he's neat-freak and 94% of photos on his blog are Italian Men With Their Trousers Rolled Up, he's not a total classy cunt. And I guess if the Satorialist can do it:

Scouting in Civic proved itself to be a hit of a hit-and-miss experience. After 1 hour in the frustrated cold, we got 3 fabulous shots (and a fan meeting) all in the span of about 10 minutes. I've already showed you the hat couple, now here are the rest of the shots!

What is it about bright sweaters in winter that make us so happy? I'm going to knit myself a sweater next winter and wear it with pride.

I think this American Apparel hoodie may be my favourite AA item (apart from their two-tone tights and cape). Also, Vicki and I both totally had a crush on this guy.

Civic: Sophisticated Couple

Vicki and I scouted in Civic during the winter break. It was nice for a change of scenery (not that we don't love you, ANU kids!). I just love this couple's matching hats, and that Chanel bag!! We weren't sure whether they were a couple or not when we first approached them, but don't they look great together?

Sorry for the delay kids, after spending an awesome holiday in Sydney, my computer decided to break on me. I won't bore you with the details, but IT technicians are super slow, that is all I will say.

We've been scouting Civic and ANU for photos, and we've got some awesome shots. As apology for the lack of updates, loads of photos will be updated today.

This guy is a Capital Style reader! It makes us happy that we don't have to introduce ourselves. I love his jacket, it's from itrip iskip I believe. We discussed how it is an awesome store (check out our store review below). I love how effortless this whole ensemble looks. Amazing.

Canberra vs. Sydney

This photo, although taken back in May, has been kept in the Capital Style archives until the appropriate time. I feel that now, as temperatures reach close to zero, it is time to publish this beautiful photo which both exemplifies the inherent style of some ANU students and is a record of the warmer days past. This stylishly simple outfit immediately captured me as the solid white of her top, skirt, stockings and even her necklace don't appear bland despite the lack of bright colour. By adding accessories in brown, black and gold she breaks up this white and lends a chic quality to her outfit. I applaud this girl for her gorgeous hair and enviable ability to keep this much white clean and pristine.

If you’ve lived in Canberra for a while, and are in any way fashion/art/cute-things inclined, chances are you’ve already come across (and become addicted to) Braddon boutique, itrip iskip.

Run by sisters Diana (Dee) and Ana Derek, the store has been in existence for about three years, and has quickly become somewhat of a Canberra fashion institution.

Stocking a range of labels, in both men’s and lady’s fashionwear and footwear, and decorated in a deliciously quirky, Alice-in-Wonderland-esque manner, the store is a haven for anyone seeking a cute outfit, a feast for the eyes, or simply a brief respite from the chilly weather in friendly surrounds.

We caught up with co-owner and fashion lover, Dee, for a chat about Canberra, clothes, and cold weather.

A fan of individual style, Dee’s favourite labels stocked in the shop are Melbourne based Lady, which is full of bright colours and fantastical floral prints, and Friends of Couture, with their cute, detailed knits. If it was up to her, half of the stock wouldn’t make it onto the shelves, having been snapped up for her own closet- luckily for us, she exercises some control! The store is filled with a wide range of styles, from simplistic knitted dresses to more detailed jackets and cardi’s.

Added to this is a warm, cosy interior, filled with teapots, plaster animals and a bright red piano. The store is so snug, in fact, that if itrip iskip were an animal, Dee said, it would definitely be a something along the lines of a squirrel, or a rabbit. Really, something cute, fluffy, and friendly.

When asked which fashion icon (past or present), she’d love to see in the store, Lou Doillon, French actress, model and fashionista immediately sprung to Dee’s mind. But even more so, she just likes to see some of the awesomely dressed Canberra locals (i.e. you guys!), who she finds totally inspiring. ‘Canberra fashion isn’t pretentious,’ she said. There are a range of unique styles developing in our humble nation’s capital.

There are no fashion don’t’s, in Dee’s eyes. Spots and stripes, denim on denim, anything bright and brave: if you can pull it off, go for it, she says. And in these colder months, scarves are an absolutely essential item, along with a cute beret.

Finally, we asked, in her professional opinion, has Canberra got style?

‘It’s getting there… no, we do!’ she laughed at our appalled expressions. ‘But it’s good not being the ‘stylish capital’!’

Who needs style when we’ve got character?

Sophia and I were out and moaning about grey-toned clothes in winter. They are OK but not so much fun for photos. Then we spied this gentleman and we had to go bother him in the library:

We tried to express our love but he was Spanish and didn't understand our fangirl English. I have a theory - wellllll really, lets call it an unfounded stereotype based on a handful of people I know- that Spanish people wear the craziest things but make them look so normal. Like, a native Canberran could not wear a red-gummi watch, matching headphones, a feminine tablecloth as a scarf, summer shorts but a beanie too, and (though you can't see them) socks that match it all. It's not weird on him but then again it totally is.

Anyway, sorry for frightening you man!

I think this is a perfect example of how an already stylish outfit can be made even better with one, well chosen, accessory. Everything here goes together perfectly,from his cardigan (great print!), the crisp (and pristine) white trousers, to his shoes and bag. I think the addition of the bow-tie was a great decision, as it really makes this outfit 'pop'and matches the red in his cardigan and shoes. Delicious.

On foggy, cold, near-winter days, when the sky looks like it's about to pour, we understand if you choose to wear your blacks and browns instead of your colours. Only condition: look as amazing as this guy. I love the slightly-too-large jacket coupled with the skinny jeans.

When it comes to mid-seasons, layering is the key. It also means you can pull together an ensemble of many colours, textures and styles. I love how boldly coloured these girls are, and how effortlessly they pull it off.
Once again, effortless style. You can't see very well in this photo, but he was wearing pink frames.

*Also: I know we've been taking lots of ANU campus shots, but we are planning to scout around other areas in the near future. As soon as we develop some more skills and make some business cards, so dear Vicki can stop hand-writing our webaddress in her depleting notepad. Any places you can recommend for us to scout?

Personally, I love autumn. Everyone who knows me knows I am a tad obsessed with this season and its pretty pretty colours. Dressing in autumn is also one of my favourite things. What better time to match the brown and green shades of nature than now?
